Panning Photograph

Panning is a technique where you move the camera while pushing down the shutter release. The effect is created by using a slow shutter speed, i.e. 1/60th, and continuing to move the camera in the direction of the object in motion even after the shutter is released. This "follow through" motion is critical in freezing the object in motion and having "only" the background blurred. You can also create the "illusion" of motion when shooting a stationary object by using a slow shutter speed (1/30 or 1/15) and pushing the camera away from your eye or by holding the camera at arms length and pulling it back toward you as you push the shutter release.
