NEGATIVE SCAN PRINT Objective: Create
a quality image from a poor quality negative using the Nikon
STEP 1: Turn on the Nikon LS-2000 Scanner. Turn on the computer. Insert your five negatives. (NOTE: when scanning single negatives you must use an adapter. Inserting fewer than three negatives in the auto-feeder will not work.) Click on the Apple menu and select Nikon Scan 2.2. or 3.0. Select the number of the Black & White or color negative using the Nikon LS-2000 scanner preview box and then click on the "Preview Button." Click on the "levels" window and adjust the highlight, mid tones and shadows levels using the "triangle" sliders for a better image from your negative. Click on the "Scan Button." When scanning is complete, go to the top menu bar and click on "File" and select "Save-as." Name your image file in the highlighted box using your "last name.Scan." Be sure that you are saving your image file to your period's folder. (Click on "Desk Top" if your period's folder is not selected and select the correct folder.) Click on "Save." Go to the Top menu bar and click on "File" and select the "Quit" option. STEP 2: Click on the Apple menu and select Adobe Photoshop. On the top menu bar click on "File" and select "Open." On the top menu bar select "Image" and click on "Adjust"-"Levels." You can make adjustments to your image quality using the triangle sliders for the highlight, mid tones and shadows levels. Click "OK." You can next choose to change the "Mode" of your image from color to black & white or from black & white to color by selecting "Mode" from the top menu bar and clicking on "grayscale" for black & white or "RGB Color" for adding color to black & white photos. Next you can experiment with the "Filters" options located on the top menu bar. If you don't like the result of your selected filter, click on "undo" in the "Edit" list on the top menu bar. Be sure to undo each filter you don't want before adding another filter to your image. There is only one "undo" level for filters. The final part of step 3 is to size your photo image. Select "Image" from the top menu bar and click on "Image Size." You want your final print to be eight inches by 10 inches. Make the largest number in either (but not both) the "H"eight or "W"idth dimensions boxes "10." Be sure "inches" are the measurement you use, not "pixels" or "centimeters." Click on the triangle and a pulldown menu will show you the inches option if it is not already selected. Once your image is at the size and quality you want, select "File" -"Save" or press the Apple key and the "S" key at the same time. STEP 3: On the top bar menu select "File" - "Page Setup." If the 10 inch dimension is "H" select "Portrait." If the 10 inch dimension is "W" select "Landscape." Select "OK." From the File menu select Print. Be sure that "quality" "Color" and "Photo Quality Glossy Paper" are selected in the Printer window. Insert an 8X10 sheet of glossy photo paper in the printer and click on "Print." |
