 8X10 Double Exposure

There are two techniques to create double exposure photographs. The "in-camera" technique is accomplished by holding down the rewind button (usually located on the bottom of the camera) while advancing the film. The same frame of film will be exposed a second time when you push the shutter release button. "Auto-rewind" cameras usually have a double or multiple exposure electronic mode that has to be set before you shot the pictures. If your auto-rewind camera doesn't have a double exposure mode, you can use the "Darkroom" method of double exposure. "Sandwich" two negatives on top of each other in the negative carrier. You will want to use a large aperture (f-5.6 or f-8) on the enlarger to "burn" the image onto the paper. You can also flip a negative over (emulsion side up) if you shot your subject on one side of the film frame as shown in the example above on the left. A poem or saying can be added to your photograph in the darkroom by printing the words on a overhead transparency and placing the transparency on top of your print paper and then exposing it with your negative.
