from Castle - Pinnacle Peak Route
This tour is a classic, probably the most popular advanced ski tour in Mt. Rainier National Park. It is popular in the winter as well as early spring. It has one of the most breathtaking views of Mt. Rainier. The tour begins from the Narada Falls parking lot and heads up the Narada falls trail to the Stevens Canyon road. It follows the road to Reflection Lakes and then heads south up to Castle saddle. Skiers break for lunch at the top and there are several runs down the upper bowls on both the north and south facing sides. After three to five yo-yos it is time to head back. The round trip distance for this tour is five miles, but it is common to end up with a couple more from runs up and down the upper slopes. The gain and loss of elevation on this trip varies from at least 1500 to 2500 feet. The upper runs have a variety of steepness from 30 to 50 degrees. This tour is difficult for skiers without turning proficiency but can be done with good endurance and plenty of daylight.
