2001 General Instructions And Information
Welcome to the
Summer 2001 season!
Mt. Rainier National Park is in Washington State (USA). It is a wilderness area, far away from the city (Seattle is 2.5 hours away!). For those interested in taking advantage of all the park has to offer there are pristine mountain meadows, wildlife, rivers, lakes, stream fishing, etc. The possibilities of hiking, climbing, fishing and photography are almost limitless.
Guest Services offeres seasonal housing inside the Park. The Glacier Dorm (pictured here) is at Paradise, at the 5400 ft. elevation. You can expect to experience alpine seasons as spring snow fields turn to wildflower meadows (we also offer housing at Longmire and Sunrise).
Being an isolated location can make people yearn for an occasional 'taste of civilization'. Guest Services offers a weekly van ride into Seattle for shopping and sight seeing (under the Space Needle, very close to REI's flagship store with the largest indoor climbing wall). We also go to Eatonville to see the latest movies.
Guest Services also offers employee internet access via a workstation at the Paradise Inn, for keeping in touch with family and friends.
Guest Services employs people of many ages from many states, as well as foreign exchange students from several countries. This creates a multi-cultural social environment many will find stimulating. Expect to make lifelong friends!

The guide service for Mt. Rainier is Rainier Mountaineering. You may contact them for information by calling (253) 627-6242. Other information on climbing can be found at Climbers Guide. If you are in good shape, you are encouraged to make the summit climb. The two-day climb should not be attempted without proper equipment and conditioning. Arrangements must be made with your supervisor well in advance for the necessary time off. We will do our best to give you the time off for this climb. Summit Lunches are available from the EDR if you ask in advance. (Top)
The National Park Service provides a website with current weather and climbing conditions, as well as other info. Click here and Select Topic under Current Information. For general weather condition in the area, select Ashford, Longmire or Paradise. (Top)
The Squirrel Report is the official staff newsletter! We have had one in the past and brought it back to life for the Centennial Year (1999). We hope to keep it going with the contributions of the Mt. Rainier Guest Services Staff.
