Emergency Lesson Plans

Many topics are covered in the Science book that we never get to. This is a chance to look at one of those topics. Here are the directions:

  • read pages 342-345 (chapter 13, section 3). Take it slow!

  • define the following terms on a piece of notebook paper: plankton, nekton, benthos, benthic environment, pelagic environment, intertidal zone, sublittoral zone, bathyal zone, abyssal zone, hadal zone, neritic zone, and oceanic zone. These are new terms to most students and are tough! I'm expecting that the reading will take a long time, and that you may have to read a definition twice or three times before you understand it.

  • if there is time: Go here. Look at the pictures of the weird fish that live in deep water. Pick one fish and draw it on the back of your paper. Label it with the name.
